Principal's message

A message from Gordon Parrish

As the proud principal of Robertson Public School, I would like to welcome everyone to this amazing little school, dedicated learning community, and place where children thrive. I hope that I can continue to work in partnership with you to further nurture and educate your child in this rapidly changing world.

I came to Robertson Public School with about 24 years of experience in education, which has seen me become part of education communities in Forbes and Eugowra in the central west of NSW, and in Stanmore in the inner west of Sydney. I have also been a leader within educational communities in Culburra on the south coast of NSW; at Muscat International School in the city of Muscat, in the Sultanate of Oman in the middle east; in Gerringong on the south coast of NSW; and most recently in the Nowra area of the south coast.

Robertson Public School, as a Learning Community is very proud of its history, values, outstanding facilities and the high standards achieved by our students. In March of 2022 we celebrate 150 years of Public Education at Robertson Public School, a milestone of which we are extremely proud.

Our School has a current enrolment of 140 students, it is a semi-rural school located in the Southern Highlands area, 15 kilometres from our nearest regional centre of Moss Vale.

At our School we aim to develop, support, and challenge every student to become resilient learners, critical thinkers, and creative problem solvers.

Our students and teachers are engaged in collaborative student-centred learning relationships that promote learning in an inclusive community.

We strive for improvement in every student, every teacher and every leader, every year.

We offer an attractive, safe, and welcoming learning environment for all students. Building positive relationships with our families is at the core of all our work.

Our goal is to create an environment that recognises the unique stages of development and provides appropriate child-centred experiences based on the NSW Curriculum. When developing programs, our teachers consider the whole child and their individual learning needs. Literacy and numeracy are our key focus, while we also place a high importance on other areas of the curriculum such as Creative Arts, Performing Arts, Science, History, Geography Personal Development, Heath, and Physical Education. We also have a strong Instrumental and Choral music program.

Our dedicated teaching team engages children in stimulating and meaningful learning while always promoting the social and emotional development of each child. All  classes provide an environment that reflects the children's needs and interests,  while promoting individual student voice, choice and contentedness.

We  value positive partnerships with parents, students and staff, providing many  opportunities for parents to become involved in the school community, including  participation on our schools parents and citizens association, as classroom helpers or on our very active  Stephanie Alexander Garden Club.

Our  school provides learning for the 21st century  and all classrooms are equipped with up to date technology including Interactive touchscreens, Laptops, and iPads. Our School is a great place to teach and learn! Our teachers are committed to a high-quality learning experiences focused on the individual needs of each child. We are striving to be creative and innovative in our instruction to engage students in their learning through a variety of STEAM activities, applications of technology, and 21st Century skills.

High quality teaching is a critical component of our school’s Strategic Improvement Plan and this is reflected in our staff undertaking continuous professional learning to enhance their skills. All teachers collaboratively plan together in professional learning teams to ensure both consistency of approach and expectations. We are currently working towards becoming a professional learning community by challenging ourselves to enhance Learning Dialogue and Effective Teacher Practice.

At Robertson Public School there is a best practice and consistent approach to student wellbeing and behaviour management. Students are expected to take responsibility for their behaviour as well as being explicitly taught social and emotional learning through the Friendly Schools Plus program.

Our primary goal at Robertson Public School is to help all students achieve their dreams and find success in pursuing life goals. We are unconditionally committed to providing the best possible educational program to our students. We believe that there are numerous opportunities, both within our curricula and through extracurricular activities, for our students to gain the skills that will allow them to be successful in their lives after school.

If at any time you would like to speak to me please feel free to give me a call here at school, or contact the school office to make an appointment. I will also be out and about in the playground, so please come up and introduce yourself and we can have a bit of a chat.

Kind Regards

Mr Gordon Parrish
